Endoscopic Deep Plane Facelift

Full-face rejuvenation through small, hidden incisions — performed by Dr. Artur Díaz Carandell in Barcelona.

The Endoscopic Deep Plane Facelift repositions the deep structures of the face — not just the skin — to restore the contours of the forehead, midface, jawline and neck. The operation is performed through four small incisions on each side, hidden inside the scalp in the temporal area, with the help of an endoscope (a thin camera) that gives the surgeon a magnified view of the anatomy.

The goal is a face that looks rested and like yourself — not tight, not “operated”.

What the Surgery Involves

Four small incisions on each side, hidden inside the scalp in the temporal area · usually under general anaesthesia · approximately 4 hours · one or two nights in hospital at Clínica Sagrada Família, Barcelona. It can be combined with a deep neck lift when the neck needs more correction.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

  • Usually between 40 and 55 years old, and up to around 60 when skin quality is good.
  • Sagging of the brow, cheeks, jawline or neck that bothers you.
  • Good general health and realistic expectations.

Not every face needs the same facelift. In faces with more volume and heavier tissues, working in the deep planes allows the tissues to be repositioned better, for a more stable and natural result.

Not sure? Send three photos (front, profile and three-quarter) and Dr. Carandell will tell you whether this technique suits you.

Recovery & Results

  • No drains.
  • 48 hours: the hemostatic net is removed and you can wash your hair.
  • 1 week: stitches removed; make-up; short flights.
  • 2 weeks: long-haul flights.

Most patients need around three weeks to feel well, and approximately one month before returning to exercise. Follow-up visits are part of the result. Most patients return to work after two to three weeks.

A facelift does not stop ageing: it places the face at a more favourable point in the process, and how it evolves depends on genetics, skin, habits and technique.

When can I get back to normal life?
Most patients feel well at around three weeks and return to exercise after about one month; most return to work after two to three weeks.

Do I also need eyelid surgery?
Not always. Lifting the brow and repositioning the cheek can improve some of the excess skin around the eyes without removing more tissue. Each case is assessed individually.
